Effie Greathouse, Ph.D.

Fluoride Exposed is a non-profit focused on making fields related to water, health, teeth, and chemistry transparent and accessible. Dr. Effie Greathouse will discuss the organization which she helped found, then dive into some interesting fluoride science topics: one traditional (a question about teeth and a common misconception) and one non-traditional (cool fluoride science that has nothing to do with teeth or fluoride misconceptions).

Dr. Effie Greathouse earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife, fish and conservation biology from the University of California, Davis, and a PhD in ecology from the University of Georgia, where she did research on freshwater shrimp and dams in Puerto Rico. She did postdoctoral training at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, focusing on water quality and stream chemistry of the Oregon Coast Range. She is a Portland mom of two and is currently director of Digital Resources for Community and Science, and Fluoride Exposed (fluorideexposed.org), where she works with colleagues in public health to explore fluoride- and fluoridation-related science across a wide variety of disciplines.
