This event is free and open to the public.

Richard Thoms, Ph.D., professor of geology and paleontology at Portland State University, will discuss fallacies in “creation science” as they relate to the science of paleontology. Thoms received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in geology at the University of Washington and his Ph.D. in paleontology at the University of California, Berkeley. During his 30 years of university teaching, he has taught introductory to graduate level courses in physical and historical geology, stratigraphy, paleontology, evolutionary concepts, and regional and field geology. Thoms is conducting ongoing research in paleontology and is developing new teaching and research methods in river studies and wetlands. He served two years on the State Board of Geologists Examiners and acts as a biennial guest lecturer on World Explorer Cruises to Alaska.
