James Underdown, Executive Director of Center for Inquiry West

O4SR 2019 Annual Meeting

Underdown will describe techniques used in testing paranormal and other claims and talk about some of the strange experiences he and his team have had during their investigations. The Center for Inquiry Investigations Group (CFIIG) lead by Underdown was recently featured on National Geographic Explorer (Season 11, episode 5; Space Race) in their battle with flat earthers. Over the last 19 years, CFIIG has tested dozens of alleged psychics, dowsers, telekinetics, faith healers, and many others making extraordinary claims.

James Underdown has been the Executive Director of The Center for Inquiry (CFI) West in Los Angeles since 1999, and founded the Center for Inquiry Investigations Group (CFIIG) in 2000. The CFIIG uses science and its methods to examine and test extraordinary claims and disseminates its findings to the public. The group offers $250,000 to anyone who can demonstrate paranormal or supernatural ability under controlled test conditions. Underdown writes the Ask the Atheist blog and is co-host of CFI’s podcast Point of Inquiry.

There will be a short business meeting with the election of Board of Directors preceding the speaker’s program. The Annual Meeting is your chance to meet Board members and give them feedback about how they are doing and suggestions for what you would like to see going forward. There will be pizza and salad provided, and a no-host bar. This event is free and open to the public, however, only O4SR members are eligible to vote.
